Rear Dormer
All new loft conversions need maximum walking space inside. This is often achieved by adding a projection known as a dormer. 1st Choice Loft Conversions will tailor the design of the dormer to your particular needs and create the optimum space for a bedroom, en suite bathroom etc.
Side Dormer
Semi-detached houses with ‘hip-ended’ sloping side roofs may need a side dormer. This will give headroom above the new stairs. We will suggest a design for this extension to suit the style of your house.
Hip to Gable
Some ‘hip-ended’ roofs may benefit from a ‘hip to gable’ conversion rather than a side dormer. Your decision on this can be assisted by our qualified Surveyor who will show you the difference.
Mansard Roofs
This conversion is preferred by some Local Authorities. The roof angle is changed to 70 degrees to create the maximum possible space. The exterior finish is matched to the existing roof. Using maintenance-free materials there is hassle-free upkeep.
Velux Conversions
One of the keys to making a loft conversion look good without it costing you the earth is to use windows built into the slope of the roof. Velux double-glazed roof windows are built to withstand the harshest elements and are the finest available. For this reason we only use genuine Velux windows.
Staircases
As members of the Guild of Master stairmakers we are justly proud of our reputation for high quality handmade stairs.
Each set of stairs is tailor-made to match exactly the existing flight, immediately becoming part of the original house. Made from pine or mahogany, your new stairs will instantly turn into a much-admired feature of the house.
Bathrooms and Shower Rooms
The days of a second bathroom in the house being an indulgence for the fortunate few are long gone. Increasingly popular is the bath/shower room addition. Whether en suite or for shared family use they add comfort and value to any home extension.

Lighting
The ‘ideal home’ look to your loft can be dramatically enhanced with the skilful use of lighting. Fortunately 1st Choice Loft conversions have great experience in this area and are able to set a comfortable theme with creative use of lighting to suit your requirements.
Heating
A centrally-heated loft room comes as standard with each of our conversions. Connected to your central heating boiler, thermostatically-controlled radiators provide exactly the heat you need.
